Anti-ageing indication for the masseters: Jaw clenching, teeth grinding and a jaw slimming treatment.

WHAT ARE THE MASSETERS?

It is the muscle responsible for chewing. It is located on the side of the face and connects your cheek bone to your lower jaw bone.

This chewing muscle can become enlarged and visibly noticeable, especially when clenching your teeth.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF A MASSETERS TREATMENT?

To reduce the size and strength of the muscle, alleviate discomfort, and balance the facial contours of the face.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF HAVING THIS MUSCLE TREATED?

It is a large muscle that when overworked or enlarged due to stress, teeth grinding or jaw clenching, can cause pain, headaches and a wider- looking face because it makes the jaw muscles appear larger.

It can alleviate the symptoms of teeth grinding, also known as Bruxism.  Bruxism is a condition where you grind or clench your teeth when you are awake or asleep.  Some people find they are doing it unconsciously. Teeth grinding is a common cause of jaw pain and tension. Having this muscle treated can alleviate the discomfort and prevent damage to your teeth and jaw.

In addition to reducing discomfort, it can slim and contour the face if you have a large masseter muscle, by creating a more V shape appearance.

Genetics can impact the shape of the face as some Asian ethnic cultures can have a higher incidence of a square jaw.

Patients who chew gum regularly can strengthen their masseter muscle making the face appear wider.

Some patients will seek this treatment for alleviating teeth clenching and grinding symptoms and others for the appearance of slimming the jawline. Either way, to maintain the results regular treatments are recommended.
