SKIN BOOSTERS

gold coast

question 1:

What are skin boosters?

Skin booster injections are an injectable skin treatment designed to improve and enhance the overall quality and health of the skin. They are a popular treatment at Restore My Glow, Gold Coast.

Skin boosters work on improving the condition of the skin, and improve the characteristics that are associated with facial ageing. Their function is restoring hydration and not increasing volume.

question 2:

How do skin boosters work?

They are injected into the dermis to instantly replenish and regenerate the skin. There are many different types of skin boosters, and many are packed with amino acids and antioxidants that are already found in the skin.  This combination combined with hyaluronic acid works like an internal moisturiser for your skin. We have a variety of skin boosters available in clinic to suit a range of skin types and budgets. A variety of injecting techniques can be used to tailor it to your specific skin concerns and treatment area, and they can also be combined with skin needling.

What can skin boosters do for the skin:
•    Increase hydration
•    Increased elasticity
•    Boosts collagen
•    Reduces fine lines and wrinkles
•    Radiant, glowing skin
•    Improved skin texture, tone, and firmness
•    Reduces pigmentation
•    Promotes radiance and improves complexion
•    Gives an overall refreshed look.

question 3:

What areas can be treated?

A whole area can be treated at the one treatment time e.g., Face, neck, decolletage, lips and back of the hands or we can spot treat to target specific area concerns like under eyes fine lines and lines around the mouth. Most patients prefer to have the face, neck, decolletage, hands and lips treated together.

question 4:

How often should I have a treatment and how long does it last?

The recommended treatment protocol for overall skin rejuvenation is 3 sessions at 4 weekly intervals with a maintenance treatment at 6-12 months. For scarring concerns or stretch marks more sessions may be required.

question 5:

Why do I need a minimum of 3 treatments with skin boosters?

The older we get the longer our cell turnover is.  We also need to give our body time to build new collagen and elastin so a few weeks to a month is recommended between each session.

question 6:

Can skin boosters be combined with other treatments?

Yes, they work very well in combination with volumising products to soften and lift wrinkles.  Some of the areas that work very well with this combination are neck lines and neck bands.  The neck wrinkles will be softened and lifted and then skin boosters are placed all over the area to improve skin health and skin condition. This dual treatment is one of our favourite neck treatments.

question 7:

What skin boosters do you provide in clinic?

We have a variety of skin boosters available in clinic.  They vary depending on your skin goals and skin condition. These will be discussed during your consultation.

  • An injectable skin booster with hyaluronic acid and vitamins and minerals to improve skin condition and help decrease fine lines, wrinkles and improve hydration and overall complexion. This booster requires a prescription.

  • The Pink Treatment skin booster.  This contains 65 vitamins and amino acids to improve skin quality with a potent combination of skin loving ingredients.   This can be injected in a variety of ways depending on skin goals and skin condition.

  • Crystal Care skin rejuvenation booster:  This treatment is combined with skin needling.  This treatment combines 61 vitamins, minerals and rainbow trout peptides to improve skin condition.  If you are allergic to fish or shellfish this treatment is not suitable for you- but don’t worry we have alternative boosters that can also be used with skin needling.  This treatment combines the benefits of skin needling and the crystal care is massaged through the areas while the micro channels are open from the needling.  Full face, neck, decolletage and lips are commonly performed with this treatment.

  • Novobio Bioglow booster: This skin booster is massaged through treatment areas after skin needling.  It combines growth factors, biomimetic peptides, and hyaluronic acid. Bioglow supports cell renewal, hydration and skin resilience.

  • Rejuran: This is a new skin booster derived from salmon DNA and is placed around the eyes, neck, decolletage, cheeks or lines around the mouth.  This treatment is manually injected and topical numbing cream is applied to the area first.

  • PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) is also a skin rejuvenation treatment.  It isn’t a skin booster as such but does use your own platelets from your own blood to improve skin quality and skin condition. This is natural skin treatment and can also be combined with skin needling, a multi head stamping needle or manually injected.

We offer a variety of skin boosters so booking in your consultation is the first step so we can discuss all your treatment options and which treatment would address your skin concerns.

Post care instructions

Post care recommendations are given to you at the time of your treatment and are also emailed to you.  They can also be found on the website.  If you have misplaced them, please get in touch with the clinic. To get the most out of your treatment we do suggest following these recommendations:

  • If the area feels overly warm, hot or stinging, use ice or a cool compress

  • Drink plenty of water and minimal alcohol & caffeine

  • Don’t touch the treated area for 4 hours

  • Avoid sun exposure or exposure to the elements e.g., wind

  • Avoid all swimming, excessive sweating, saunas, spas and hot water on the treated skin. You can rinse the area with water under the shower and carefully dry with a fresh towel after 4 hours

  • Use a clean pillowcase tonight and for the next few nights

  • No make up today.  Oxygenetix is the only post procedure make up we recommend.  You can use your normal make- up the following day

  • No bleaching, waxing, lasers, IPL, skin peels for 4 weeks after treatment

  • If the healing skin is incorrectly cared for there is potential for delayed healing, infection or scarring.

  • Additionally, there is the potential for hyperpigmentation (darker areas of pigment on the skin) lasting 1to 12 months if the new skin is not sufficiently protected from UV or sun exposure.

  • Daily use of SPF 50+.  We recommend the Airyday 50+ sunscreen as it is hydrating, is a make up primer, contains vitamins C, E and F and is also blue light blocking.  There are a few to choose from in the range so let Lisa try them on you in clinic.  They are available to purchase for even sensitive skins.

question 9:

What are the benefits of using Skin Boosters for younger versus older skin?

Skin boosters have become a well-loved treatment solution for rejuvenating and refreshing skin. Let's delve into how these treatments benefit both younger and older skin types.

For Younger Skin

  • Enhanced Hydration: Skin boosters deliver a potent dose of hydration, ensuring that youth's natural glow is maintained. This helps counteract daily exposure to environmental stressors that can deplete moisture levels.

  • Firmness and Elasticity: By supporting collagen production, skin boosters can improve the firmness and elasticity of the skin. This proactive approach helps ward off early signs of ageing, keeping skin resilient.

  • Smooth Texture: The ability to refine skin texture is another advantage, leading to a smoother and more even complexion. It's like a primer designed by nature!

For Older Skin

  • Combatting Crepiness: As skin ages, it naturally loses volume and elasticity, leading to crepey skin. Skin boosters can help minimise these signs by rejuvenating the skin, resulting in a more youthful appearance.

  • Reduction of Fine Lines: The boost in hydration not only benefits skin texture but also helps soften fine lines and wrinkles. This is achieved by restoring moisture that's often lost with age. These can also be combined with treatments to volumise or soften the wrinkle to further improve the skin.

  • Improved Skin Tone: Older skin can suffer from uneven pigmentation. Skin boosters contribute to a more balanced skin tone, enhancing overall radiance.

Whether you're looking to maintain youthful vibrancy or restore a youthful glow, skin boosters offer tailored benefits that cater to the unique needs of different age groups.

question 10:

What are the potential side effects of Skin Booster injections?

Potential Side Effects of Skin Booster Injections

When considering skin booster injections, it's important to be aware of the potential side effects. These are discussed during the consultation and with any treatment there are potential risks. Here’s what you might experience:

  • Temporary Swelling and Redness: It's common for the treated area to swell or become red shortly after the injection. These symptoms usually subside within a few days.

  • Bruising: Some individuals may notice bruising around the injection site. This is typically mild and fades over time.

  • Tenderness or Sensitivity: The skin may feel sensitive or tender to the touch for a short period post-treatment.

  • Itching: Occasionally, there may be mild itching as the skin heals and adjusts to the treatment.

  • Minor Lumps or Bumps: Small lumps might form but generally smooth out as the product integrates into the skin.

Adhering to post care instructions given to you, can help to minimise these risks.

question 11:

When will results be visible after a Skin Booster treatment?

You can expect to notice some initial effects immediately following a Skin Booster treatment. These can vary depending on the skin booster used. As your body works to generate new collagen, these improvements will continue to develop over the course of the next three months. 3 sessions are recommended for skin rejuvenation, and by the 3rd treatment the results are amplified. Some individuals choose to come back for a follow-up session to enhance their results. This rejuvenation can last up to nine months, offering you long-lasting skin rejuvenation benefits.

question 12:

How long do the effects of Skin Booster injections last?

Skin booster injections can significantly improve your skin’s appearance, providing notable improvements. Typically, the effects of these treatments can last several months. Most patients observe results that endure up to nine months after their initial treatment.

Factors such as individual skin type, age, and lifestyle can influence the duration of the benefits. For optimal, long-lasting results, maintenance sessions every six to twelve months are often recommended by skincare professionals. This will help sustain that rejuvenated glow and keep your skin looking fresh and revitalised.

question 13:

What numbing options are available during the Skin Booster procedure?

During the Skin Booster procedure, there are several options to minimise any discomfort you might experience. Here's a quick overview:

  1. Numbing Cream: A topical numbing cream can be applied to the skin before the procedure. This cream helps dull the sensation on the surface, making the treatment more comfortable. Some skin boosters combine local anaesthetic, some like Rejuran require topical anaesthetics and some skin boosters don’t require any. The type of skin booster and injecting device used can also impact the need for a numbing cream.

  2. Local Anaesthetic: For those who may need stronger relief, a local anaesthetic can be administered. This method is particularly effective for reducing discomfort by numbing the specific area of the skin targeted during the treatment. Some skin boosters will contain local anaesthetic in them so after a few injections the area feels more comfortable.

  3. Cool Compresses: In some clinics, especially for patients who prefer not to use creams or injections, cold compresses might be used. These can help to desensitise the area naturally.

These options ensure that your experience during the Skin Booster procedure is as pleasant and pain-free as possible. Stress balls and distraction implements can also help to alleviate discomfort. Always discuss your preferences and sensitivities with your healthcare provider to choose the best numbing method for you.

question 14:

How do Rejuran Polynucleotides compare as a treatment alternative to Skin Boosters?

Rejuran Polynucleotides and traditional skin boosters share a common goal: enhancing skin vitality and skin health.  Both treatments work by stimulating collagen and elastin production, but they achieve this through different mechanisms.

Collagen Stimulation Method

Traditional skin boosters primarily rely on hyaluronic acid to hydrate and plump the skin. This enhances the skin's moisture retention capacity, leading to a fresher appearance. In contrast, Rejuran uses polynucleotide DNA-based injectables, derived from sources like salmon DNA. This unique composition activates fibroblasts, which are responsible for collagen synthesis, without relying on hyaluronic acid.

Benefits of Rejuran Polynucleotides

  1. Hydration and Regeneration: While skin boosters focus on hydration alone, Rejuran adds an element of skin regeneration. It aids in rebuilding collagen and elastin, vital components for youthful skin.

  2. Fine line softening and Texture Improvement: Both treatments can soften fine lines and wrinkles, but Rejuran may offer additional benefits. Its regenerative properties can address more severe issues such as texture changes, large pores, and various types of scarring, including acne scars.

Main Ingredient Distinction

  • Rejuran: Primarily consists of polynucleotides, which target the skin’s structural integrity.

  • Skin Boosters: Typically contain hyaluronic acid, a well-known agent for skin hydration.

In conclusion, Rejuran Polynucleotides, PRP and traditional skin boosters can enhance skin appearance and skin health. During the consultation with your health care professional, they will discuss the treatment options relevant to your skin goals.

question 16:

What are common names for Skin Boosters?

When discussing skin boosters, you'll come across several common names that highlight their hydrating and rejuvenating benefits. Some skin boosters can also not be named due to advertising restrictions, falling under a prescription medication. These can be discussed during the consultation process with your cosmetic nurse. These treatments are often referred to as:

  • Skin Rejuvenators: This term emphasises their ability to improve skin texture.

  • Injectable Moisturisers: Highlighting their primary function of infusing the skin with hydration.

  • Hydration Boosters: Focused on their role in enhancing the skin's moisture levels for a plump and radiant look.

Each name reflects a specific aspect of their function and effect, making it easy to see why they're so popular in skincare routines today.

question 17:

What happens on the day of the Skin Booster treatment?

A skin consultation is the first step. You will meet with one of our highly experienced cosmetic nurses, who will devise a personalised treatment plan to address your specific skin concerns. During this consultation the treatment, treatment benefits, costs, alternative treatments and risks are explained.  Any pre- and post-care instructions are also provided.  Pre-treatment photos are taken after going through the consent form with you. Depending on the skin booster, you may also need to speak with a doctor who will authorise your treatment.  This does not apply to all skin boosters.

Although the injections are superficial, we offer numbing options for those who wish to minimise discomfort.

The treatment area is thoroughly cleansed, and the appropriate technique is used to inject the product into the skin.  The procedure will take approximately 45 minutes, depending on the number of areas being treated. Afterwards, a post-procedure soothing balm is applied to help reduce redness and calm the skin.

For further relaxation, you can opt to enjoy a Vskin post-procedure mask while in the clinic. This mask is designed to calm and soothe the skin and can also be used at home that night or the following day. It offers a hydration boost and can help speed up recovery times after microneedling, laser, or other skin treatments. Add it to your treatment in the “add-ons” to ensure we have enough time for both your Skin Booster and the Vskin post-procedure mask. These can also be purchased to use at home that night.

What to wear

Please wear something loose and comfortable. This allows easier access to treat your neck and decolletage if these areas are also being treated.  Please arrive with a clean face, make up free.

How long will the procedure take?

The procedure duration can range from 30 to 60 minutes, depending on how many areas are being treated.

Is there an option for pain management?

Yes, there are numbing options available, like numbing cream to help reduce any discomfort during the treatment. Ice, stress balls (for distraction), and relaxing music in the clinic can help to alleviate any worry.  Some skin boosters contain local anaesthetic so they will feel more comfortable after a few injections in the treatment area.

Who will perform the procedure?

The procedure will be carried out by a highly experienced cosmetic nurse, ensuring professional care.

How to improve my skin results at home

  • Using active skincare ingredients at home will also work to ensure your skin is primed and ready for the treatment.

  • Airyday reboot exfoliating fluid can prep your skin for your upcoming treatment but should not be used for 3 days before the procedure.  Any patients with broken or irritated skin or rosacea should avoid this treatment until the skin is calm and the barrier is healed. This is to reduce any potential post care complications.

  • Using your Airyday LED mask after the treatment can help to reduce redness in the skin that day.

  • Avoiding the sun so wear daily Spf 50+.  We stock Airyday sunscreen as it works as a make up primer, contains vitamins C, E and F and is light and hydrating.

Who is eligible by age for the treatment?

Individuals aged 18 and over can consider this skin enhancement option, but will need to be seen for a skin consultation first to determine suitability. Reviewing your medical history, skin concerns and listening to your skin goals is done at this consultation.

question 19:

What is the recovery time for Skin Booster injections?

It is a relatively quick procedure that has very minimal downtime. Typically, no downtime is required, though you might experience some swelling, redness, or bruising. Depending on the technique used, the skin booster used, and your skin condition, the recovery experience can vary.

If a multi-head stamping needle was used, you might notice small red dots that remain for approximately 1-12 hours at most. If the treatment was applied after skin needling, your skin may appear slightly pink, similar to a post-workout flush or sun-kissed glow. The ingredients in the Pink Treatment and crystal care skin booster are designed to soothe your skin.

If your skin was injected with a needle there may be some bruising and red marks.  For skin needling procedures the down time is minimal with redness and the feeling of a sunburn.

To aid in recovery, consider using Vskin post-recovery healing masks. These can speed up healing times.

Use an LED face mask (we stock Airyday LED bright on masks with 432 lights and clinically proven wave lengths of light) can help reduce redness.

Additionally, wearing breathable makeup can cover any redness while allowing the skin to heal and breathe, thus speeding up recovery times. We stock Oxygenetix post procedure make up that is breathable, light and covers up bruises and redness and can speed up recovery times.  Post procedure products are available in clinic for purchase.

With these recovery tips, you can return to your routine quickly and confidently, enjoying the benefits of rejuvenated skin with minimal interruption.

Following your post procedure recommendations will also help to speed up recovery times.  These are given to you at the time of your treatment.

Speak with Lisa about your post procedure skin treatments that can alleviate these.

What are the possible side effects immediately following the procedure?

You might experience some swelling, redness, or bruising as common immediate side effects.

Is there any downtime required after the procedure?

Typically, no downtime is necessary, allowing you to continue with daily activities almost immediately.
