HYPERHIDROSIS
excessive sweating treatment

We cool our bodies down by sweating but some patients can sweat excessively. This may be worse during any climate, but particularly a warm climate or times of stress and anxiety.  It can also be exacerbated by certain medical conditions.

There is a solution to reduce the amount of under arm sweat that is performed in clinic.

Hyperhidrosis can really affect one’s self-esteem, confidence, quality of life, the ability to wear long sleeved tops and can irritate the skin.

How does the treatment work?

Anti-wrinkle injections are injected into both underarms to reduce sweating. It works by blocking the nerves responsible for stimulating the sweat glands, and helps to normalise the amount of sweating.  No anaesthetic is required.  A few short acting injection stings and some injections won’t be felt at all.

How long does it last?

It is a procedure that can last up to 5-12 months and results can be seen after one single treatment.

It does take up to 2 weeks to start to notice a reduction in the amount of sweating.

When you notice an increase in your sweat, we recommend a maintenance treatment.

Most patients see a reduction of 81-87% in the amount they sweat (as per the International Hyperhidrosis Society).

Individual results vary based on certain medical conditions and other factors that are discussed during the consultation process.

is there anyone who cannot have the treatment?

You must be over 18 years old, not be pregnant, breastfeeding or trying for a baby, haven’t had a covid or flu vaccination 2 weeks before the scheduled appointment, or have any medical conditions that prevent you from having anti-wrinkle injections.

A consultation is required before your treatment to discuss your medical history and your suitability for the treatment. It is during this time the risks, treatment itself, post care instructions and cost are discussed. You will be given all the information needed to make your informed decision. Before your treatment you will be given the opportunity to speak with a doctor and ask any further questions.  They also review your medical history.

Are there any pre-treatment recommendations I need to follow or after-care instructions?

Pre-treatment:
Medications and vitamins such as aspirin, fish oil and omega 3’s, Ibuprofen, NSAID’S, St John’s Wort, ginseng, gingko biloba, evening primrose oil, vitamin e, caffeine and green tea can increase the risk of bruising, bleeding and swelling so we recommend avoid taking these for 2 weeks before your treatment (unless advised to continue for medical reasons).

Post care:

Post care instructions are exactly the same as anti-wrinkle injections to the face- except you do not need to keep your head upright.

Avoid any deodorant or rubbing the arm pits and avoid wearing tight clothing that might cause friction or cause the product to move from where it has been injected for at least 24 hours.

Avoid any exercise and extremes of temperature for a minimum of 48 hours post treatment and if you do bruise easily avoid any exercise and caffeine the day of your treatment.
