NEFERTITI NECK LIFT
platysma bands/ neck, jawline, jowl lift treatment

Anti-ageing indication: Nefertiti neck lift: Platysma bands/ Neck, jawline and jowl lift treatment.

WHAT IS THE NEFERTITI NECK LIFT?

It is named after the Egyptian Queen Nefertiti who had a long and elegant neck and sculpted jawline.

It is a non-surgical and non-invasive treatment option to lifting the jowls, neck and jawline.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

It targets the platysma muscles by relaxing and softening the neck bands to give a smoother, more defined and uplifted neck, jawline and lower face.

WHAT ARE THE PLATYSMA BANDS?
The platysma bands run vertically, covering the entire neck, from the bottom of your face to the collarbone.

They are primarily a muscle for facial expression of the mouth and lower face. They can look more prominent when contracting this muscle to create thick prominent neck bands. When contracted it can produce a slight wrinkling effect of the neck and a “bowstring” effect on either side of the neck, neck creases, a double chin, sagging skin and the appearance of a “turkey neck”.

When you clench and pull up your neck or when saying the letter “e” is when the strength and thickness of the platysma bands are more visible.

WHAT CAUSES PLATYSMA NECK BANDS?

These vertical bands get worse with age and increased strength of the platysma muscle, which can cause thickening of these neck bands.

In addition, the quality and elasticity of the skin on the neck changes. The neck bands look more prominent and then horizontal neck lines appear. Hyperactivity of the muscle causes vertical loose bands and a pulling down of the jowls and jawline.

Neck wrinkles appear all around the neck resembling necklace lines.  The jowls start to appear heavier and the DAO (Depressor anguli oris) muscle that causes the downturned corners of the mouth all contribute to these changes.

Will this treatment work on my horizontal neck bands too?
No there are alternative treatments for improving other wrinkles in the neck.

The skin on the neck is quite thin compared to the rest of the face so treatments targeting the skin quality, texture and tone of the neck will improve horizontal neck bands, whereas relaxing the platysma muscle will soften the vertical neck bands.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
Targeting the platysmas muscle by softening them will prevent the downward pull, and reduce the strength in the muscle thereby lifting the jowls, jawline and the lower face.
This treatment is regularly combined with treating the DAO muscle.  This is the muscle that forms in the corner of the mouth to the jaw and can cause the corners of the mouth to turn downward, giving the appearance of a sad face.

OTHER NECK TREATMENT OPTIONS

There are alternatives to surgery but some patients will require surgery to achieve the look and lift they desire. There are many treatments that will improve the entire neck area.

Some patients will require a combination treatment approach to target both horizontal and vertical neck bands, and these are discussed during the consultation process in detail.

Improving the skin texture and tone with PRP. Platelet Rich Plasma is a scientifically proven skin rejuvenation treatment that boosts your own collagen production, tones and tightens the skin by repairing the elasticity and quality of the skin.

Skin needling to stimulate the body to produce its own collagen and elastin and thereby improving the skin texture, tone and reducing the appearance of the neck wrinkles.

Chemical Peel to encourage the growth of new skin cells, improve the texture, tone and luminosity of the skin.

Volumising treatments to soften the appearance of the horizontal neck bands and wrinkles.  Softening and lifting the marionette wrinkles can also be used in combination to lift the lower face.
