JOWL LIFT TREATMENT
with dermal filler

A non-surgical option to lifting the jowls and marionette crease is using dermal fillers to enhance the jawline and pull back the sagging jowls.

What are the jowls?
The term “jowls” is used to describe the sagging skin on the neck and near the jawline. Volume loss in the cheeks and mouth causes a heaviness around the chin, jawline and marionettes, creating jowls. The loss of definition and contours of the chin and jawline transition into a loss of definition of the upper neck.

What causes jowls?
•    Age is the primary cause of jowls but other additional factors can contribute to their appearance such as lifestyle, genetics, diet, environmental factors, history of smoking and excessive alcohol consumption, extreme or rapid weight loss, physical trauma to the bone or muscle, poor skin hygiene, chronic illnesses, and other factors discussed during the consultation process. Almost everyone will develop at least minor jowls as they age.

•    From the young age of 30 years old there are skin changes, fat pad changes and bone loss in the face.  She skin loses its elasticity and doesn’t look as “firm or tight” as it used to be. The skin on the neck is thinner than the face and loses its elasticity sooner so crepiness and sagging of the jowls begin to appear.

•    The triangle of youth becomes an inverted triangle, making the lower face heavier and the jowls more prominent.

What treatments target the jowls?

•    We aim to rebalance the face, replace lost volume and create a more aesthetic, youthful appearance.  With the use of premium dermal fillers, we can create the contours and definition in the jawline, to provide a non-surgical option to lifting the jowls. This is one treatment solution but we have a range of treatments available in clinic. It is during the consultation process the best treatment solution will be discussed, to target your specific and unique jowls.

As well as in clinic dermal fillers these can include:
•    PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) injections will promote skin firmness and improve the quality of your skin with using your own concentrated growth factors directly from your own blood.  These are injected into the neck and jowls to reduce the appearance of the jowls and sagging jawline.
•    Skin needling and skin booster injections will improve the skin quality and target fine lines by boosting your own collagen and elastin.
•    Chemical peels to improve skin elasticity, texture, tone, hydration and fine lines.
•    Dermal fillers to lift the jowls and jawline by targeting the fat pad and bone loss changes.
•    Strategically placed anti- wrinkle injections into the neck bands might be recommended to lift the sagging jowls. These work by lifting the lines and wrinkles giving the neck a more youthful appearance. This is also called the Nefertiti lift.
•    Combination treatments will work best rather than a single treatment. There are also at home treatments you can do to help prevent your jowls from getting worse.

What can you do to prevent jowls?

•    Addressing all the factors discussed in how jowls develop can help as well as using anti-ageing skin care with active ingredients to target skin elasticity for a longer-term approach that will work with all the other treatments.
•    Using at home LED face mask to boost collagen and elastin.
•    50+ sunscreen used every day.
